Somerset Wassail

Wassail, and wassail, all over the town!

Our cup it is white and our ale it is brown;

Our bowl it is made of the white maple tree,

And so is the beer of the best barley.

For itís your wassail, and itís our wassail,

And itís joy be to you and a jolly wassail

The roads are very muddy, my shoes are very thin

Have you got a pocket to put a penny in?

If you havenít got a penny, a haípenny will do

If you havenít got a haípenny then god bless you.

Apple blossom, apple blossom, apple blossom beer,

So we may have apples for cider next year;

Barrelfuls and binfuls, till they overflow,

And the cider runs out of every gutter hole.

There was an old farmer who had an old cow.

He wanted to milk her but did not know how.

He built up his barn to keep his cow warm

And another glass of cider wonít do me any harm.

God bless the master of the house, likewise the mistress too,

And all the little children that round the table go

Weíll have a piece of cheese and a pint of good beer,

Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.
